how to free the memory occupied by "blob" in MS sql server

i'm working in microsoft sql server and i got following problem:

I have a text files Asia.txt in E:\ folder with some data in it as shown below

Asia.txt

1, Mizuho, Fukushima, Tokyo
2, Minika, Pang, Taipei
3, Jen, Ambelang, India
4, Jiang, Hong, Shangai
5, Ada, Koo, HongKong

And I have a table Region, in the database Companies, as shown below.

1>CREATE TABLE REGION (ID INT,REGION VARCHAR(25),DATA varbinary(MAX))
2>GO

I queried all the data from Asia.txt, using the OPENROWSET function.

1>INSERT INTO REGION (ID, REGION, DATA)
2>SELECT 1 AS ID, 'ASIA' AS REGION,
3> * FROM OPENROWSET( BULK 'E:\Asia.txt',SINGLE_BLOB)
4>AS MYTABLE
5>GO

it occupied some memory then i deleted this record using follwoing query

1>DELETE REGION
2>GO

then it deletes the record successfully but memory is not getting freed

can anyone help me out on this problem

When you delete from SQL server the memory will not be removed until the database is truncated. If you want to store data temporarily create a temporary table with a prefix of #

CREATE TABLE #TEMPTABLE|||

i want to remove one record from the table, and i did it by using "DELETE" statement with WHERE clause,

now i want to free memory which was occupied by recently deleted record.

what i know about TRUNCATE statement is that it deletes the whole table and we cannot use WHERE clause with TRUNCATE.

and i don't want to create temporary table.

so how can i use truncate?.

thanks for your suggestion

Hi,

This problem make me concentrate to it ! I have the same problem, please read this article :

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=947545&SiteID=1

Althought I use temporary table, but, it does not free memory when I delete temp table, I do not know why ! For someone, they said that : "In AS, it free memory not well and Microsoft company does not anonounce this problem in a clear way !".

Can you tell me more,

how to format text fields

Hi all,
I´m just wondering, how to (RS2000):
How can I reach that a textfield content is being cut by a page break and
continued on page 2?
(In print preview mode: now if the textfield content doesn´t fit on the same
page, it´s printed on page 2, leaving a lot of blank space on page 1.
Let´s say the content is 30 lines long:
I simply want to get the first 20 lines on page 1 (till page end) and the
rest 10 lines on page 2.
I experimented, now CanGrow=True and CanShrink=True, but I didn´t find any
more properties controlling this behavior.)
Is there any way to format _parts_ of a textfield content in different ways
(f.e. some words bold)?
(Now each time a text shall be bold (f.e. headings and text) , I have to
create an own textbox and then an own textboxes for the text, followed by a
new sections and so on. That´s exhausting. Any better way to reach that?)
Thanks for tips!

Is the text field in a table or dumped to a textbox control?

There's no way I'm aware of that would allow this behavior. Font weight no
text boxes are pretty much an all or none property.

How to Format Text Area in Report

Hi,
I need create report that should look like a letter,
i.e. I have long, formatted text, where I should place few fields from
the record.
For instance:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Sir,
1. Hear goes
2. some formatted text
3. and {Fields!one_field.Value} inserted at line number 3
4. and {Fields!another_field.Value} inserted here
And text continues here
and here, and {Fields!next_filed.Value}
etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did not found possibility to have one text box with formatted content
and fields/ calculations inserted into it in Report Design.
I tried also divide my text area to few text boxes where static text was
separated from data fields, but I've got into the issues with spacing
between the fields. It looks good in design view, but in preview it adds
extra vertical spaces within the fields. Also it is quite hard to format
a set of text boxes to look like one formatted letter.
Is it possible insert fields into formatted text box? If no, how in
general I should build such report?
Thanks for any help,

You should consider using a table control in place of the textboxes.
This should allow for a little better layout/design flexibility. Also,
concatenating text and expressions/etc together as an expression is
fairly straight forward, i.e.,:
="and " + Fields!one_field.Value + "inserted at line number 3"
Hope this helps.

I tried to use expression, but it does not allow to format text. How can
I insert CRLF in the expression? I tried chr(10)+chr(13). It looks good
in preview, when I run report from my web site, seems it just ignore it
and print report without CRLF.
I will try to use tables.

Thanks,
Alex.|||RS is pretty crummy at this time for this. RS 2008 will have much better
support for rich text. I have not experimented with it in pre-release
software so other than knowing the support will be better (i.e. there will
be support for rich text) I can't give you particulars.

How to format a text box to show bullets

I want to display this on a report

Conditions of your reward

· The enclosed reward has been couriered to you in accordance with the selection you made.

· This reward cannot be returned in full or part for points, swapped or exchanged for cash.

· If your product is defective in any way upon receipt, please contact to arrange a replacement.

you would think it would be simple but I can't seem to get it to work.

The best I can come up with is a bullet point then the text straight afterwards. I have also tried an image but when it prints it doens't really look the part.

Any ideas

I too have the same problem with Bullets.Any suggesstions or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

why not use something similiar to the following:

=space(number) & chr(number) & space(number) & "whatever you need here"

This should allow you to pick an item off the ASCII character chart for chr(). The space() would allow you to set necessary spacing. If you need a hanging indent for sub-items, I'm pretty sure a iif() would do the trick. I hope this is somewhat helpful.

How to format a part of a textbox

Hey all,

Does anyone know a way to format part of a textbox ? I need just the column value to be bold.

Like this:

"Just a static text Some BOLD Text other static text..."

My expression:

="Just a static text " + Fields!FieldName.Value + " other static text..."

Is there a way to apply formatting just to Fields!FieldName.Value ?

Thanks!

myLabel.Text ="hello " +"<b>" + Fields!FieldName.Value + "</b>" +" not bold";

the above will work just fine for you (in VB.net)

|||

U can also apply CSSClass via <SPAN></SPAN>

|||

The above suggestions can't work because it's aReporting Services textbox and not just a regular asp.net textboxWink

|||

Well, you may not like this suggestion...

how about having three text boxes. Set the middle textbox to be bold.

|||

looks like thats the only option... i know u can type in alt+89 will give u Y but i couldnt find something that will make something bold... if u can put latin characters in then u can some those keystrokes.

Hope this Helps.

Regards

Karen

|||

Hi,

Thanks for the suggesion :)

I have tried it. It's also not an option, when I place 3 textboxes I have an annoying spaces between them and an alignment problem.

I suppose I'll have to leave it as normal text and to give up the "bold idea" :(

From your description, you want to format a part of contents in textbox of reporting service, right?

Unfortunately, Currently, Reporting Services doesn't support rendering "HTML as HTML" in order to avoid the HTML injection attack.

Now I just find two possible workarounds for your from russch's blog.

Post-processing: After a report has been fully rendered, intercept the document and re-process it, turning the HTML (displayed as a string) into HTML which is "really" displayed.

Custom Control (2005 only): One could theoretically build a custom control in 2005 which takes the HTML/RTF, saves the rendered output as an image, and then displays the image inside the custom report item. This looks really hard as the managed GDI namespace doesn't give us anything to easily approach this sort of scenario.

Quoted from Russch's blog.

Thanks.

How to find the rowcount of the dataset in a report

I have a report.

In one of the text field i have to show the rowcount of the dataset

How can i do that

I dont understand what exactly you mean. If you want the total count/number of rows in a dataset, use CountRows("Dataset1"). If you want to get the row number of each row in the dataset (in a list or a table), then use RowNumber("Dataset1")

How to find text in HTML report using FindString/StartFind/EndFind

I am rendering an HTML report page-by-page, using the Section deviceinfo tag
and the RS SessionID; this works nicely.
I would like to be able to search for text in a report and, just like the
std ReportManager, show the page on which the text is found.
But if I set FindString/StartFind/EndFind and omit Section, I get all pages.
If I leave Section set to the current page, that page is rendered even
though the search string is found elsewhere (say, on the next page).
How does one use these devinfo parameters to find text and render that page?
Thanks in advance for any help.
/JeffI have exact the same question/problem.
Any solutions to this ?
Regards,
Roel

All the posts don't seem to be available! http://tinyurl.com/yr38vs shows
more replies. I don't know sharepoint so I am not sure what should be in the
sites table, but if you could restore a copy of the database to a different
server (or under a different database name on the same server) you will be
able to compare the contents and see if they are different.

how to find C# in the text

I am not able to find C# using full text search of SQL 2005 beta 2
also, is there a way to enable some special words for indexing, such as c++,
c#,
thanks
--xin chne
I can find it. It seems to be case sensitive for C#(ie it can't find c#),
and it is case insensitive for c++.
Here is my repro
Create database XIN
GO
use XIN
GO
create table XIN
(pk int not null identity constraint primarykey1 primary key,
charcol char(20))
go
create fulltext catalog XIN as default
create fulltext index on XIN
(charcol) KEY INDEX primarykey1
insert into XIN (charcol) values('test')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('c')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('c++')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('c#')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('C')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('C++')
insert into XIN (charcol) values('C#')
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c') -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c++') -- c++ and C++ returned
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c#') -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C') -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C++')-- c++ and C++ returned
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C#')--C# returned
--trying neutral
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c', language 0) -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c++', language 0) -- c++ and C++
returned
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c#', language 0) -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C', language 0) -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C++', language 0)-- c++ and C++ returned
select * from XIN where contains(*,'C#', language 0) --C# returned
--removing c from the noise word list and rebuilding the index
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c') -- nothing
select * from XIN where contains(*,'c++') -- c++ and C++ returned
