Somewhere you turned on the Table's "Header should remain visible
while scrolling" option. Right click your table, Properties, General
Tab, and uncheck that option.

No Prne, the option you mentioned is not available.|||Actually the option she mentioned is there. You need to make sure that you
are right clicking on the table and not a column,textbox or row in the
table. When the properties window appears it will say "Table Properties" at
the top. The option you are looking for is the very last check box on the
"General" tab.

how to format this layout?
I have to incorporate a subreport into my main report. if my main report shows state, county, city and my subreport shows county and school name. how can I show just the schools that are in that county.
my question is how can I apply a condition to show schools in the subreport where county name (subreport ) = county name (main report) ?
attached is an image of the layout.
I know it's probably easy but I'm new to Crystal.
thank youYou can link the subreport with the main report. Right-click on sub-report and select 'Change Sub-report links' option. In the Link window,select the 'County Name' field from the Main report. Select the checkbox 'Select Data in Subreport based on field'.

How to Format Text Area in Report
I need create report that should look like a letter,
i.e. I have long, formatted text, where I should place few fields from
the record.
For instance:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Sir,
1. Hear goes
2. some formatted text
3. and {Fields!one_field.Value} inserted at line number 3
4. and {Fields!another_field.Value} inserted here
And text continues here
and here, and {Fields!next_filed.Value}
etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did not found possibility to have one text box with formatted content
and fields/ calculations inserted into it in Report Design.
I tried also divide my text area to few text boxes where static text was
separated from data fields, but I've got into the issues with spacing
between the fields. It looks good in design view, but in preview it adds
extra vertical spaces within the fields. Also it is quite hard to format
a set of text boxes to look like one formatted letter.
Is it possible insert fields into formatted text box? If no, how in
general I should build such report?
Thanks for any help,

You should consider using a table control in place of the textboxes.
This should allow for a little better layout/design flexibility. Also,
concatenating text and expressions/etc together as an expression is
fairly straight forward, i.e.,:
="and " + Fields!one_field.Value + "inserted at line number 3"
Hope this helps.

I tried to use expression, but it does not allow to format text. How can
I insert CRLF in the expression? I tried chr(10)+chr(13). It looks good
in preview, when I run report from my web site, seems it just ignore it
and print report without CRLF.
I will try to use tables.

Alex.|||RS is pretty crummy at this time for this. RS 2008 will have much better
support for rich text. I have not experimented with it in pre-release

How to format numerics with the sign on the right?
(if negative) on the right. But I also want the numbers to line up properly.
I can't seem to find a way to format this. In Excel, you'd use a format like
#,##0.00_);#,##0.00-. But that does not quite do it in Reporting Services. I
see you can use custom formats and the syntax is similar to Excel but not
quite the same. I tried:
#,##0.00 ;#,##0.00-
but RS seems to ignore the whitespace. I also tried:
#,##0.00' ';#,##0.00-
also to no avail.
Any suggestions?What about using double quotes: " " ?

How to format measure descriptions
report based on a cube, you are presented with a detail
column for your measure and a column to the left of that
for the description of the measure. My report has several
rows of measures that present (for example) both units
and dollars. I want to be able to leave a blank line
between the units section and the dollars section. I also
want to be able to place a heading for each section. The
preference is that the heading be off to the left rather
than above -- but i am not able to add a second
description column. So I placed text in the description
column to simulate the desired formatting.
For example:
Units Prod1
Prod2
Prod3
Total
Sales Prod1
Prod2
Prod3
Total
This approach looks fine in the designer. But when i
publish the report and view it in IE, all extra spaces
are gone (both horizontally and vertically) so the
descriptions look as below:
Units Prod1
Prod2
Prod3
Total
Sales Prod1
Prod2
Prod3
Total
Any suggestions on how to get a better presentation of
the descriptions?Try Using Padding ?

why not use something similiar to the following:
=space(number) & chr(number) & space(number) & "whatever you need here"
This should allow you to pick an item off the ASCII character chart for chr(). The space() would allow you to set necessary spacing. If you need a hanging indent for sub-items, I'm pretty sure a iif() would do the trick. I hope this is somewhat helpful.

How to format a number field..
e.g.
when i have a value of 1, i want to make it appear in the report like 0000000001 or if i have 11, i want to make it appear like 0000000011
Hope someone could help!
thanksHello DarylAps,
You have two options :
1. While selecting records from table itself use replicate function (assuming you are using mssql server ) and return formatted number.
or
else
2. Create a formula as shown below : assuming your numeric field name is col :
ReplicateString('0', 10-Length ({SqlCommand.col} ) )+{SqlCommand.col}
Here are the details of ReplicateString functions of CR :
ReplicateString (str, #copies)
Basic and Crystal syntax.
Arguments
str is the text string to be replicated.
#copies is a whole number indicating the number of times str is to be replicated.
I hope you like this resolution.
Thanks

How to force the page footer to display at the *bottom* of the page
Is it possible to force the content of the page footer to always display at the bottom of a report? I have a report that shows customer orders. It has its interactive height set to 5 inches. There is one customer order per report page. Most of the reports don't require 5 vertical inches (but some do).
How can I make sure that the stuff in the page footer (date, page number, etc.) always gets rendered in the same position for each report? Currently, the page footer follows the last detail line so the footer information sometimes is only midway down the report page.

How to force CSV via hyperlink jump to report?
report. the called report has several parameters that I've set up. The
hyperlink runs fine. Now I've been asked to have that called report always
run in CSV format.
Does anyone know how I can add the report server Format parameter with a
value of CSV (&rs:Format=CSV) when calling a report via a hyperlink
navigation?
StephanieUse jump to URL. Here's a bunch of stuff of using Jump to URL:
Jump to URL gives you more control than jump to report.
For the first two examples be careful with the single and double quotes.
Here is an example of a Jump to URL link I use. This causes Excel to come up
with the data in a separate window:
="javascript:void(window.open('" & Globals!ReportServerUrl &
"?/SomeFolder/SomeReport&ParamName=" & Parameters!ParamName.Value &
"&rs:Format=Excel','_blank'))"
This comes up as html (default format) in a separate window
="javascript:void(window.open('" & Globals!ReportServerUrl &
"?/SomeFolder/SomeReport&ParamName=" &
Parameters!ParamName.Value','_blank'))"
If you don't want to have it appear in a new window then do this in jump to
URL:
=Globals!ReportServerUrl & "?/SomeFolder/SomeReport&ParamName=" &
Parameters!ParamName.Value
Here is an example of a Jump to URL link I use. This causes Excel (note that
Excel does not handle Unicode well at least Excel 2003 doesn't so I use
ASCII) to come up with the data in a separate window:
="javascript:void(window.open('" & Globals!ReportServerUrl &
"?/SomeFolder/SomeReport&ParamName=" & Parameters!ParamName.Value &
"&rs:Format=CSV&rc:Encoding=ASCII','_blank'))"
If you don't want to have it appear in a new window then do this in jump to

Parameters!ParamName.Value & "&rs:Format=CSV&rc:Encoding=ASCII"

If the report has 6 parameters that I need to send, I need to put those in
the call, too. How can I make sure the user cannot see the parameters that
I'm sending in the URL or even any of the URL?

If you are doing something like passing the ID of the person think about
tying a query parameter to the User!UserID global variable (query parameters
do not have to be mapped to a report parameter, they can be mapped to an
expression).

1) I see how to set the Globals!ReportServerUrl parameter in the config file
on the different report servers. (We have Dev, ProdSupp and Prod.) But how
do I set it for testing a report that's located on my PC? I only have the
SQL Server client tools locally. When I run now, it's putting
"http://reportserver/" in. When I hard code it to the Development server
URL, it works.
2) My report that I need in CSV format is a matrix. The column headers,
which are dynamic, are not showing up in the CSV file. Do you know what I
need to do to get the dynamic column headers to show?
Thanks!

How to force a subreport not to break to the new page?
I have a subreport embeded into the main report. When the subreport contains
more data than it can be displayed on the same page, it breaks to the next
page leaving the previous one almost empty.
Does anybody know a solution for keeping subreport data on the same page as
much as possible and breaking to the next page with the rest of data that
does not fit to the first page?
Thank you in advance.
EdmundasI've found out that if the size of the (body and report itself) of the
subreport is small enough, this occurs less, but this seems like a work
around...|||> When the subreport contains

I am having the same issue. The main report is very simple - a table with 2
detail lines - the second detail line has the subreport in it. The subreport
is a simple table with one header and one detail band.
Like StefanO-nl - I don't see this problem on other reports where the
subreport has a small number of rows.
Is there any kind of work-around for this? A sub-report is a highly useful
thing, so I'd hate to not be able to use it because of page-break weirdness
in PDFs.
I just installed RS SP2 (client only) for development, and it did not fix
the problem.

it seems that if the subreport has a height of .1 and a width equal to the
width of the widest report item, random pagination does not occur.

How to force a page break on a multi-column report ?
When I use the PageBreakAtEnd on the table or on a group in the table, all it does is create a new column of the column report.
I'd want it to start a new page, how can I do this ? Should I work around this issue using code ?
Background: What I need to achieve is a report with 2 columns where the list of products in category 1 are listed in the left column and then snake to the 2nd column on the same page, then to column 1 on page 2, column 2 on page 2, etc...
When it comes to category 2, it should start a fresh new page regardless of whether the previous product was rendered in column 1 or column 2.
I get the snaking to work using the "Columns" property of the report Body. However page breaks do not start a new page, they just start a new column.
What if you created an outer group which evaluated the same expression, and put the page break on that group instead? Would that work for you?|||Hi Alan,
If u want page break after specifi records on report u can try by modifying the(.rdl) file which is XML and set the tag property as specific inches might work for u.For that u have to set the tag value 2 in or any 'x' in where tag name is 'InteractiveHeight'.
(<InteractiveHeight>11in</InteractiveHeight>)
I hope this'll help u for forcing the page break.

sqlhow to fixed the size of the report and landscape view state?
Good day.
How to make or fixed the size of the templates? and how to make the report in landscape mode? i have make a layout in the landscape mode but the priblem in print preview it is not in the landscape mode.
thanks your help is greatly appreciated
Check the width and height property of the "Report" and "Page". Both should be proper, for your report to print (preview) in landscape.|||thanks rajeeb
but there's a way to make it fixed landscape view. Coz when previewing in the Web form its ok coz the layout of the report is in the landscape but when you export it example in the PDF file it will not set in landscape mode.
thanks
|||If your widht and height property have proper values and you can view the report in landscape mode, then the export to pdf will also not be a problem.
I have used it, no issues, though I export to PDF using Render method of the ReportViewer control, which is same as what you are trying to do.
how to fix report layout problems
When you use Report designer in the BI development studio, on the Preview tab, you can have a straight preview or a print layout preview. I suppose what you see in the print layout preview is what you get when you print the report or export the report to the other format.
However, often you see everything looks perfect in a straight preview but does look right in the print layout preview. For example, you might get the following problems in the print layout preview, even if everything looks perfect in a straight preview.
· Every even page is a blank page
· Items that should be together on the same page are separated into different pages. For example, on the first page, I had a TextBox1 followed by Image1 then followed by TextBox2. Both textboxes have constant (static) values, and Image1 holds a jpg image. Strangely enough, when I do print layout preview, I saw both textboxes and blank space in-between on the first page, and then saw the image on the second page. No matter how I adjust and what I adjust (position, size, bring to front, send to back, ... etc), I just could not get them into the same page, and I have no clue why.
Can anyone provide some suggestions, advices, experience, knowledge, or pointers?
Where and what elements should I look into to fix the layout problems stated above?
Thanks in advance.
Chris in Toronto
Hi There,
It's probably a problem with page width. Your report is too wide to fit on a single page, and so the right hand edge will be carved off into a new page, hene every other page is blank or your data is split across pages.
The report should be something like 21cm by 29.7cm (sorry, I can't remember the inch equivalents). And the body should be about 18cm wide. (at least these measurements certainly fit on a sheet of A4 in one of my reports).
Cheers - Andrew.|||
I have already considered the page width.
No matter how I adjust the page width, it does not fix the two problems that I described.
Thanks anyway.
|||When you looked at the page width vs. body width, did you consider the size of the margins? This blog article might help:
http://blogs.msdn.com/chrisbal/archive/2006/08/10/694892.aspx
This situation is the only one I'm aware of that will reliably cause every other page to be blank in physical page layout renderers.

How to fix postion of report itme?
I put a list at the body of report. At the top of the list, it displays general information of invoice, like invoice no., customer name, address, page no....., I want those information print on the top of every page. In the middle of list, I use a table to display invoice details, it may have many lines and longer than one page. At the bottom of the list, I want to display some terms and condition and draw a line for signature.
I want to know how to fix the position of report items in the list? I want to repeat the beginning part (general information) of the list on every page, and print the terms and signature part at the end of an invoice (not on every page for multi paged invoices), and at the bottom of a page (signature must be printed at the bottom of a page, and end of an invoice, not every page). Does RS have similar functions fix report item location? like print at the top / at the end of a page, repeat header on every page in Crystal Reorts?
Thank you very much!!I'm also having this issue. I'm wondering if anyone has figured out a way to fix information to the bottom of the page/report.|||
Can't you just use Page Headers and Footers for the Report Title and Signature section?

How to fit table on one page
group or subtotal in the report, but just plain data. It is built in a
table. The report always generates two pages when it is ran, even though I
checked "fit table on one page if possible" box on the properties of the
table. How can I set up the report to display the 200 records on one page?
Thanks in advance!Hi Jean,
You can change the Page Height property in the Report Properies dialogue to
a larger number to fit the rows. This is true if you are rendering the
report in HTML.

You can increase the size of your Page Height Property in Report

How to fire off a report and save it as pdf...
Using vb.net, does anyone know or has anyone fired off a sql report, save it as PDF to a defined path?
I am knew to sql reporting services and the help files are not very helpfile.
Any sample code would be helpful.

Hello,
Have a look at the sample code on this page:

Specify the export format you want (in your case "PDF") as a parameter to the Render method.

First of all thanks for the reply.
I tried the above stated method and the URL for my system was "http://localhost/reportserver$sqlserver/reportexecution2005.asmx".
As i'm developing a Windows application solution, i hasn't deployed any of my reports in the specified URL or any other.
I tried to add the URL as a Web reference its saying the URL doesnot contain any web service.
I tried to browse the URL manually, its saying that there is an authentication problem, and user "systemname\ASPNet" is unable to connect to the Database.I went to Sql server and given all the rights to 'aspnet" user , which was a normal user previously.In IIS i tried giving anonyous rights as well as windows integrated user for the virtual directory .My DB is having full rights, and working on integrated user while using the forms.
still the problem persists.
1) is the problem in SQL server or IIS or windows...?
2)Does this has any relation to 'ASP.Net state service' service in windows
3) will me publishing the reorts in iis server will solve the issue. I should have tried this but i'm a too newbie in this and i need to search for how to do that...
Please do help...... Thanks in advance......

|||Sudeesh,
If you are developing a windows application then you should use the ReportViewer control. This can be used in one of 2 modes:
local mode: the report files are saved as RDLC and stored in the application directory (no report server required)
server mode: where the control connects to a report server and displays shared reports. For this reports need to deployed tot he server.
|||Hi Adam,
Thanks a lot for the reply...
I should have told my problem in detail...
Let me do that now..
I'm creating a windows application With Vb2005 and Sql 2005 express editions.
The basic point is to create 5 reports from the data in sql tables, each one having several subreports. These reports have to be exported to Excel as there was a VBA application on Excel previously.Currently I'm able to manually save each report as an individual file and later open five excel files move/copy them into one file and then save the excel.I want to automate the task using code such that for the end user it should be like, one button pressed and five reports are saved to excel file... The issue is that i'm able to save at least a report to an excel file manually only, not using code.
Once i'm able to save one report by code we can bundle all of them into one workbook.
To view the report I'm using Reportviewer control but i'm not able to save it.
I hope i made it clear....
